  • What is the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence)?

The APC is the RICS structured training and assessment route to becoming a Chartered Surveyor. It involves developing competencies to the required levels, submitting a Summary of Experience and Case Study, and attending a final assessment interview.

  • How does registration work?

Register online by providing your details and selecting your programme. You receive a unique Candidate Number and Service Agreement Number, sign your Service Agreement electronically, then make payment using your Candidate Number as the reference. After payment confirmation you receive a one-time activation code to access Axis.

  • How long does activation take after payment?

Once an authorised mentor confirms your payment has been received, your activation code is generated and emailed to you. Processing time depends on when payment is verified, typically within 1–2 business days of the payment being received.

  • Can I register twice if I do not hear back?

No. Do not register again while awaiting payment confirmation. Duplicate registrations may delay payment matching and account activation. Contact us if you have concerns about your registration status.

  • What is included in the Regular programme?

The Regular programme includes 1 mock interview, 1 SOE review and 1 Case Study review within the package fee. Additional services beyond the included allowance are available as chargeable Additional Service Requests.

  • What currency will I be charged in?

Your account currency is determined by your country of residence at registration and cannot be changed after account creation. Package fees, invoices and all transactions will be in your locked account currency.

  • What is Axis?

Axis is your candidate portal. It gives you access to your course - Summary of Experience, Case Study and presentation, CPD, mock interview and services, assessment and readiness - plus your candidate profile, documents, notifications and settings.

  • Is this platform affiliated with RICS?

No. APC Excellence Mentoring is an independent professional mentoring service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official service of RICS. All RICS competency references are for mentoring guidance only.

  • Does my enrolment automatically qualify me for RICS membership?

No. Enrolment in our mentoring programme does not guarantee or automatically qualify you for RICS membership. Membership is awarded solely by RICS, subject to meeting its eligibility requirements, completing the relevant assessment pathway and successfully passing the Final Assessment. Our role is to guide, support and prepare you throughout that process.

  • Will APC EM draft the SOE and case study for me?

No. Your SOE and case study must reflect your own experience, knowledge and professional judgement. APC EM will guide you on structure, content, competency evidence and presentation, while providing detailed feedback to help you strengthen and refine your own submission.

  • Can I still choose to submit and sit for the RICS APC interview if my mentor advises me not to?

Yes. The final decision to submit for assessment and attend the RICS APC interview remains with you. Your mentor may recommend delaying submission if they believe further preparation is needed, but APC EM cannot prevent you from proceeding. Any decision to submit should be made with a clear understanding of your readiness and the potential risk of referral.

  • Is my money refundable?

Refunds are subject to APC EM’s applicable terms and conditions. Once enrolment is confirmed and mentoring services have commenced, fees are non-refundable.

  • Are the sessions recorded?

No. Our mentoring sessions are not recorded. We prefer to keep the learning experience live and interactive rather than relying on repeated training recordings, allowing candidates to engage directly, ask questions and receive guidance relevant to their own APC journey.

  • Do the sessions count as CPD?

Yes. Our sessions can count towards your formal CPD as part of your RICS APC preparation. However, we also encourage candidates to attend a wider range of relevant free and paid CPD events to broaden their knowledge, strengthen their technical understanding and build greater depth across their CPD record.
